Everything listed here sounds great. I totally know where you're coming from and it's important to think positive. I know it's hard but you can do it!!!
Try Mint. It works like I imagine Microsoft Money would without taking up space on your pc. It lets you see pie charts of your food purchases or gas and so on and so on. Visuals are really useful to me. What works for me is never carrying cash. It's too hard to keep track of. I write all of my purchases and checks in my register and then I can go online with either my bank or Mint and see where I'm overspending. It helps a lot.
