Default When Getting a Home Inspection, Make Sure to Test for Radon

I am helping a friend shop for a house, and thanks to the finding of a home inspector, she found problems with two different houses that she had no idea about and the seller did not mention to her. One was with the quality of water in a drinking well on the property -- the inspector found out that the well water had unacceptable levels of contaminants, like lead. The other was the level of radon in the house (and she's a smoker, so she definitely does not need to have an additional lung cancer risk from high amounts of radon in a new house). For more information about this really bad chemical element and what the EPA recommends regarding testing, visit accurateinspections(dot)com/radon.htm. Also, search YouTube for "radon" and you'll find some helpful videos about home testing for radon.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, radon reductions systems work, but before spending money on solving the problem, it’s best to get the home inspected first. The EPA and the Surgeon General suggest radon testing. But this is one thing on a long list of things that a home inspector will check out in your home or in a home you’re thinking of buying or selling. In any case, it’s an absolute must to have a home inspected before signing on the dotted line.
