I went back and re-read what you said, but I guess I'm missing what you were trying to say. I thought you were trying to say that breast augmentation is a vanity, but no different than many of the other benign vanities we have in our lives (doting on a car, buying lots of clothes, etc.)

I was trying to say that while I agree we all have certain vanities, there's a scale from minor things like makeup to major things like expensive, risky surgery.

I don't think women should be censured for choosing to do a breast augmentation, but at the same time I worry about their mental health and cannot comprehend why they would. I do wish they could be happy with their body as it was made and I worry about creating a culture where women are applauded for, or even expected to, radically alter their natural state to appease some external standard of beauty.

But, as someone above wisely put it, someone else's breasts really aren't my business. I would have deep reservations about my daugther doing it, but if Jane down the block wants to have it done, that's her own affair.
