Our non bill budget is 400 (two small kids two adults) that includes cleaning stuff, food and any 'extras that may incur. Though I always go over some but not past 500.

One of the ways I slowly cut it down is by stopping the 'convenience foods' chicken nuggets or precut salads and well all the stuff that 'saves you time' which I put in quotes cause I never understood the need for a 30 minute cook book, I never spend more than that cooking less it is something fancy (roast) or something with a long ignore time (baked potatoes).
