This is a very important point and I don't think anyone here is arguing with you on this. Yes, your home is an important component of personal wealth for most people. I expect that when my wife and I are gone, the value of our home will be a nice chunk of the estate that passes to our daughter.
But that is much different than the investments that we are building to use while we are still alive. Our Roth and traditional IRA and 403b and 401k and taxable investment accounts will be what supports us in retirement. I don't anticipate our home's value to enter into the picture at all.
