I am always bullish, because I have 20 years until I need my money.

Small caps are a great place to get 10X returns. Finding good small caps will be tough. I read somewhere that 50% of the 1997-1999 bull was yahoo, microsoft, dell, intel and cisco. Meaning anyone which found these stocks when they were small were the ones which got the biggest gains- and these companies took many companies up with them.

There is no guarantee a "total stock market index" finds these companies either- these funds do not own all the stocks in the index, so no guarantee they find the companies when they are young enough.

Always look for good small cap funds. I might suggest Bridgeway as a place to play that sector.
