Yeah, I didn't expect it until Summer....
I'm paying about $3.66 per gallon here in California.... but I don't buy name "brand" gas. Just cheap stuff that my old 4-cylinder Honda doesn't seem to have a problem with. Since now I only drive <100 miles per week for both work and grocery shopping, my gas consumption has gone down.
And since DH & I bought a hybrid for replacement of his clunker, he's paying a bit less for quantity he now uses, but the higher price means that we still are within our total gasoline budget. Once it does go over $4, then I suspect that we'll see a difference then.
But yes, food prices have gone way up here. Unfortunately, not much we can do about any of it.
The problem is really with the trucks that deliver the food to the groceries; they are getting hit realy hard. Diesel fuel is more costly then what we use and they use a whole lot more of it than we do by pulling their loads. The cost of sending anything I suspect is going to rise, as will plane fares and anything related to the consumption of gasoline.
