In the future, you need to try to make sure that when you buy new food it gets put away with the freshest stuff placed in the back and the older stuff gets pulled to the front. If you really want to watch your dates you could take masking tape and place it on the top of the can or box with the expiration date, so that it is easy to see which to use first.
I hate having to check all my cans of food for dates since sometimes what you just bought may not be fresher than something you already have in the pantry, so the tape on the can top makes it easy to tell at a glance what the expiration date is instead of having to decode the date on each can.
I could easily live off of what I have in my pantry and freezer, for a month or more. I would need to go buy milk though, because I just recently pulled the milk I had in the freezer out, to use since we were getting low in the fridge.
2 percent milk freezes fine, but I have a issue with freezing 1% or fat free. I froze a bunch of fat free with added calcuim once and to get the texture right after freezing, I had to mix it up again in my blender (which made the milk grow in amount).
