Just an update to the USAA post. If your parents were in any of the services and they are USAA members, you can become a member there as well. I believe this can continue as long as each subsequent generation becomes a member. USAA has the best customer service in the entire country (in any industry) as reported by Business Week in 2008. They also have very low fees, free checks, ATM fee reimbursement (you can use any ATM and they will pay back the outside bank's fees to you), as well as a great feature where you can scan checks and deposit them over the internet (no need to mail checks). In addition, we saved several hundred dollars a year on our auto insurance by switching to them. I heartily endorse them for anyone who can become a member.
