DH asked me before we got engaged, I wear both, but I wanted our wedding bands to match, he only wears silver, so thats what I wanted. Actually mine is a combination. but all the rest of my stuff is silver. (color wise, mix materialwise).
The way you ask will be more important IMO. I still remember the exact phrase DH used
