My fiancee at the time (now my husband) got me my first cell phone when my car left me stranded at 11:00 at night in the dead of winter in a not-so-great part of town. The people who let me use their phone were very nice . . .but also quite drunk . . . I think after that he decided his beloved needed a cell phone
I guess that's the price of driving older cars huh? We recently added on to my sister's family plan, so now our plan only costs about $12 a month.
