I used pegboard in my kitchen. If you look through Julia Child's cookbooks it's what she used in her kitchen.
Mine is unpainted and but I might paint it later. I hang my strainer, measuring spoons - anything that the kids are likely to cart off to the sandbox.
If it's good enough for Julia it's good enough for me and my kitchen gets a WORKOUT every single day.
