Money Confession – Taxes

I have been collecting money confessions from people I have met over the last couple of months. This is one of those confessions that I thought would be worthwhile sharing. This is confession number 27 in the series:

Haven't paid taxes
“I haven’t paid taxes in 15 years.”

People like this really piss me off. I hate taxes as much as the next person, but I also realize that they pay for a lot of useful things. If everyone paid their fair share, we could all pay a lot less.

It’s possible that person didn’t make enough to have to pay taxes. Last year, we received back everything we had paid the IRS (except for social security/self-employment taxes) — and I consider our family comfortably middle income!

Of course, we still owed state and local taxes.

Unfortunately, Ronald Reagan’s Administration disagrees. Google “Grace Commission Report” and you’ll find out that not red cent of income tax that you pay goes to any service or government program.

To understand our current tax system, you have to understand how our money system works, and where the value of our dollars comes from.
