Fortune: TV Show If You Need Money
Do you need money and think that you have a great story that you can get across in 1 minute? NBC is holding casting calls for a new show called Fortune where people can give their pitch to multi-millionaires to try and convince them to give the money.
I’m curious to see this show. There was a show on while I was in Japan when multi-millionaires listened to pitches for new business ideas which I enjoyed. If the person pitching could get enough of the millionaires to invest in their idea, then the show followed up with the set up and launch of the businesses. This appealed to me because it was interesting to see when the multi-millionaires would be willing to invest and when they wouldn’t. It also gave a lot of decent pointers of all the aspects that go into opening up a business. The people that received the money did so with the knowledge that they were to pay it back and the multi-millionaires were partners in the project.
I think a show like that in the US would be quite helpful for a lot of people. My feeling is that this one will be lacking quite a bit on the substance and be more of a “can people pitch” show. It will likely be mostly people begging for money with an occassional good cause or idea that makes it in (I hope I’m wrong, but that would be my guess). Here is the information from NBC:
“FORTUNE” gives multi-millionaires the opportunity to share their wealth and see first-hand how they can make a difference in the lives of people like you! You don’t need to sing or dance or travel the world. All that’s required from YOU is a need for money and, most importantly, to be able to impress us - and ultimately our multi-millionaires - with your story in just 60 seconds!
The NBC site has the following open calls listed with more to be added:

Leave it to the Americans to copy yet another BBC (and now CBC) show and make it sound like they are coming up with a new idea. The Dragons Den already does this.
