Found your sight from Punny Money's carnival. This is a great idea and right on time for me since I just moved into a new (to me) home and was going to purchase some supplies this weekend. HFH is one of my favorite charities and I plan to purchase all that I can from the ReStore in my area.

Thanks!

[...] How would you like to improve your home, save some money, and help out a worthy cause all in the same set of purchases? Jeffrey Strain at Personal Finance Advice explains how simple it can be to do all three by checking out Habitat for Humanity’s excess supply stores. You can pick up great deals on basic home improvement needs and make a contribution to one of the world’s best charities at the same time! For those making home improvements, you may be able to do a more extensive improvement than you had anticipated with your current budget. Getting all the materials you need may take a number of visits, but for those who are not in a hurry they should be able to locate the items they need over time. [...]

I went to the local HforH ReUse store several times when I was doing a complete bathroom remodel project last year, but unfortuntely never found anything worth buying for my project. I can definitely see potential though if you are there at the right time.

I think next time I would start going well before I actually started doing anything and see if I stumbled across anything that would fit in my project. It is much easier to wait and see what shows up when what you need isn't holding up your project schedule.

Of course, my state and the state that is one town over from me doesn't appear on the list... dangnabit. Actually, 4 New England states are missing. When you consider there are 42 of 50 states on the list, that's pretty pathetic on our part. Krgnskl in MA
