Seeking Alpha Sound Money Tips Editor

Seeking Alpha NetworkI have myself a part-time job. I was approached by the editors at the Seeking Alpha Network to take over as the writer / editor for the Sound Money Tips area. After talking it over with the editor (what would be expected and how it could benefit us both) and Nate (how would this affect our plans and his thoughts), I accepted and started to submit posts this week.

While I won’t be promoting my sites in any way directly as the editor there, I do have an editor’s page which should give me and my writing some quality visibility among people who may not have otherwise known about my writing. I know that some big hitters frequent the Seeking Alpha Network because the one time they mentioned a post I made, the post was picked up by LifeHacker which is a top 15 blog according to Technorati’s ranking system (it was a good traffic day when that was posted).

One of my main worries was that by taking on editing and writing for Sound Money Tips, PFAdvice and Sound Money Tips would basically be the same: something that I definitely did not want. After talking with them and their expectations and they type of posts they wanted, I decided that the two sites were quite a bit different even though the field was the same. That was probably the biggest hurdle in deciding whether or not to accept.

The runner-up was time. I just don’t have a lot of extra amount of it these days and I didn’t want to take time away from my sites to post on another network. After discussing what exactly they wanted, I realized that it wouldn’t take nearly as much time as I first thought it might. I also get paid a small amount for the position and have decided to use that money to promote the other sites (in effect, instead of spending time promoting them, I’ll spend the money I earn which I feel would be about the same and I get more exposure at the same time).

I’m still getting my feet wet, but I’m looking forward to the new challenge and feel it will be beneficial for all of us involved.
