Giving A Gift Of Personal Finance

I was talking with a friend this weekend about the sites and what I’m doing. He began talking about how he and his family wanted to save more money, but they just couldn’t figure it out. He then asked me if I would take a look at their spending habit and finances and make some suggestions on how they can possibly save money. We agreed that we’d give it a try beginning next week.

My guess is that it has a 50% - 50% chance of actually taking place more than a couple of times. I find that most people that ask for advice when it comes to saving money are looking at for advice that someone else can implement for them instead of making the changes themselves. Even though there are a lot of areas where you can save money which don’t take a lot of effort, any change is usually not accepted unless they are truly ready to tackle the challenge.

Personally I’d love to see it work out. It would give some first hand accounts to pass along to all of you reading and I can take you step by step through what we did and why. I’ll therefore start with painless saving and see how that goes. Hopefully it will encourage them enough to try some other things later on.

This is a wonderful gift for me to give (we agreed it would be my gift to their family this year) since it’s something that I enjoy doing and feel that if it works, it will be quite positive from them too. I7ll certainly keep you all up to date on how it goes…

Somewhat similar, I have a couple of friends that are the same age that we are planning to get together on a monthly basis to “talk money”. The main purpose for us getting together is to share what we know (good or bad) to maybe educate the others.
