Can You Save Money With Sling TV?

Sling TV
If you’re trying to save money you may look towards your entertainment costs to cut first (that’s what I always do). For this reason, many people have turned to non-traditional television services, leading to rise of giant companies like Netflix over the years. There are some things that you can only see on TV though and for that Sling TV has an answer.

What is Sling TV?

We can all admit to only watching a few of the hundreds of channels available to your through your cable company. What Sling TV is offering to customers is the ability to just pick the channels you watch and pay for those. The company offers more than 150 channels for its customer base to choose from.

Sling TV calls itself “a la carte” television. Like a menu at a restaurant, you can choose different packages and purchase individual channels instead of paying for channels you’ll never watch. The new service also has extremely competitive prices. So, how much does Sling TV cost compared to traditional cable?

How Much Does Sling TV Cost?

The base Sling TV package is $20/month. This basic service provides you with most of the channels you’d ever want to watch anyway, including A&E, Cartoon Network, Comedy Central, Food Network, Lifetime, Disney Channel and even your local news channels. How much Sling TV costs now is completely up to you.

What Channels Are Included?

As previously stated, Sling TV is “a la carte” television. The company provides you with three basic packages to choose from. Below you’ll find the three separate already-made packages that Sling TV offers, along with the channels each offers and the cost.

The best thing about Sling Tv is that if you want an additional channel, you can pay for just that channel (on top of the $20/month base).

How Much Are ‘Extra’ Channels?

Once you’ve browsed the list of channels that are included with your base Sling TV service you may find you want some additional channels. How much do they cost?

If there are additional channels you’d like to purchase that aren’t included in the Sling TV basic packages you can do so for $5 per channel per month. You can also get some of these channels (or at least the shows you watch) through other streaming services. Read about why I love channel subscriptions.

Can Sling TV Replace Cable?

Personally, services like Sling TV have replaced television and it is like that for many other American families as well. Whether or not you can replace cable with Sling TV depends on your personal preferences. My grandmother, for instance, could never live without cable TV and although she loves using Netflix, Hulu and even Amazon Video she’ll never let go of that cable bill. There are shows she has to watch.

For people like my grandmother, Sling TV is finally offering an affordable TV service that allows you to pick and choose the channels you have (which are likely the only ones you watch anyway). Services similar to these will likely replace cable in the near future. Right now you can get Sling TV access anywhere in the United States. If you’re tempted to give it a try, you can get the first seven days free and then decide whether Sling TV can replace your cable service.
