Last weekend a group of personal finance bloggers got together in San Francisco to discuss personal finance and Web 2.0. The event was sponsored by MyStrands, Inc. in conjunction with Networth IQ and Expensr and called the Personal Finance Leaders Workshop by The Bay. The event was an attempt to see how Web 2.0 can positively affect and help personal finances over the Internet. Questions such as can the social aspect of sharing with others help personal finance grow and what type of security are people in different life stages willing to share with websites were among the topics discussed. Although the conference wasn’t set up to come up with specific solutions at this time, it was an interesting discussion of where different personal finance bloggers thought things might lead in the future and discussion focused on how much financial information (passwords, account numbers, etc) people would be willing to share for the social aspects that can be gained from such information (my view being that while people trying to get our of debt and improve their finances may be willing to share this information, as their net worth increases, they are likely to be less inclined to do so).
