This is a series of money confessions which I received from audience members after some speeches I have given recently. These are some of the more interesting money confessions that I thought would be worthwhile to share with everyone. This is number 15 in the series:

Nigerian scam letter
“You know those Nigerian scam artists you read about? I am one of their victims.”

  • Why is it that people become so gullible when there appears to be money-for-nothing on offer? These Nigerian scams pop up all the time in the UK too, and they obviously work otherwise these guys wouldn’t keep sending them out. They get a victim to hand over their bank details and some cash up front to help with transaction expenses, and the next thing the victim knows, the down payment is gone, their bank account has been emptied and their new ‘business partner’ has vanished. What a surprise. Still, the more websites like yours publicise these scams, the less likely large numbers of people are to fall for them. Keep up the good work!

This is a classic case where greed outweighs common sense. While I’m sure it was a difficult and costly lesson to learn, hopefully it was a learning experience so something like this doesn’t happen again.
