Our 13-year-old German Shepherd mix died a few years back. She was the one that the kids grew up with. We got another GS and let them know the new intruder wasn't a replacement and could never compare, but that I wanted a dog. It's been 4 years now and she's become the family dog, but Emma, the girl who passed away, will never, ever be forgotten and will ever remain the main dog ever. Sympathies to you.
