Savings Ahead

ING Direct, which had been giving a $25 bonus to people who opened an account with a referral to a friend and a $1 deposit, has changed their rules. Now to qualify for the $25 bonus, a person must open an Orange Savings Account with a minimum of $250. From their website:

If your friend opens an account with at least $250, we will also deposit a $25 bonus in their new account and a $10 thank you bonus in your Orange Savings Account.

If your friend’s initial deposit is $250 or more your friend gets $25 and you get $10.

If your friend’s initial deposit is less than $250 your friend gets a great account and you get a friend for life

This is sure to heat up the debate on whether a ING Direct or Emigrant Direct account is better.

Not terribly surprising, really. I’m sure once word spread of the sign-on bonus people were opening accounts right and left. But I’m glad I signed on when I did (with a $5 initial deposit).
